Privacy Policy

👋 Summary

ABC Learning is a free educational site for children ages 2–7. We take children's privacy seriously and follow two strict laws: COPPA (US, children under 13) and GDPR-K (EU, children under 16).

The short version: we do not collect personal information from children, we do not track behavior across other sites, and we only show non-personalized "Limited Ads" that do not build a profile of your child.

👶 Children's Privacy COPPA + GDPR-K

ABC Learning is designed for children. We comply with:

• COPPA — US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
• GDPR-K — EU General Data Protection Regulation for minors
• UK Age-Appropriate Design Code (ICO)

We do not knowingly collect: full names, addresses, phone numbers, photos, geolocation, persistent identifiers used for cross-site tracking, or any information that could identify a child personally.

Parental rights: Parents and guardians may review, request deletion of, or restrict collection of their child's information at any time by contacting us via the GitHub repository linked at the bottom of any page.

🍪 Cookies & Local Storage

We use minimal cookies and browser local storage to remember your preferences. We categorize them:

• Strictly Necessary (always on): cookie consent state, reward-system progress (points, pet level, mission progress). Cannot be disabled — required for the site to work.
• Preferences (optional): theme choice (default/light/dark/seasonal). You can disable in the Customize panel.
• Analytics (optional): aggregate, non-personalized page-view counts. Disabled by default. We use a privacy-respecting provider that does not set cross-site cookies.
• Advertising (optional): required by Google AdSense and our kid-safe ad partners to deliver ads. Off by default until you click "Accept" in the consent banner. See Advertising section below.

📢 Advertising Limited Ads only

To keep ABC Learning free, we show ads from two networks. Both are configured for child-directed sites, meaning the ads you see:

• Are not personalized based on your child's behavior
• Do not use behavioral targeting or build a profile
• Do not collect names, locations, or device identifiers for ad purposes
• Are clearly labeled as "Ad" or "Sponsored"
• Are text-based or static image — no autoplay video or sound
• Appear in non-intrusive locations (bottom of pages, between quiz questions) — never covering learning content

Ad networks we use:

• Google AdSense — "Limited Ads": Google's child-safe ad serving mode. No personalized ads, no behavioral targeting. Learn more
• SuperAwesome / KidoodleAds (kid-safe ad network): ads reviewed by humans for kid-appropriateness. Learn more

What we never do: serve personalized ads to children, retarget children across other sites, share child data with advertisers, or use any third-party analytics that tracks individual users.

🎥 Video Content

Our videos are hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Videos autoplay muted by default (per browser policy). We never embed YouTube, Vimeo, or any third-party video player — all videos play directly from our domain to avoid the cross-site tracking those embeds would create.

No viewing history is collected or stored. Each play is a fresh load.

🔒 Data Collection Summary

• Account registration: Not required
• Email collection: We do not collect emails. Parental contact is via the GitHub repository.
• IP address logging: Cloudflare's edge logs IPs for security + DDoS protection only. Logs are auto-purged within 30 days per Cloudflare's privacy policy.
• Persistent identifiers: Only localStorage for reward-system progress (points, pet, missions). Stays on YOUR device. Can be cleared in your browser settings.
• Geolocation: Never requested. Not used for ads, content, or analytics.
• Cross-site tracking: Never used. No third-party tracking pixels of any kind.

🌍 International Compliance

• EU / EEA / UK visitors: GDPR + UK Age-Appropriate Design Code compliant. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in providing free educational content + explicit consent for non-essential cookies (advertising).
• California residents: CCPA + CPRA compliant. We do not "sell or share" personal information as defined by CPRA. Children under 13 are covered by COPPA.
• Brazil, Canada, Australia, other regions: We follow the strictest applicable standard (COPPA + GDPR-K) globally.

Our site may contain links to external websites (such as our GitHub repository, Wikipedia, or Amazon book recommendations). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage parents to review the privacy policies of any linked sites before allowing children to visit them.
